Your exporter checklist

Have you got an EORI number (Economic Operators’ Registration Identification)? And does it begin with GB?

Have you completed and sent a signed letter of appointment to a direct customs agent? This is required otherwise your goods will not get customs cleared.

Do you know the Commodity Codes for the goods you’re Exporting? Every consignment will need this for customs entry as the codes identify whether your export is subject to any licensing, duty rates or VAT.

Do you know where the goods you are exporting were originally manufactured? The origin of the goods may affect the payable duty and could mean extra documentation is required.

Are the goods that you’re exporting subject to licensing? Goods such as Alcohol, food, plants, chemicals/waste, animals or military goods may require additional documentation.

What is the reason for your export? Are the goods going into free circulation, sold outright or immediately being moved on again? CPC codes (Customs Procedure Code) will be required to identify this.

Has a Commercial invoice been completed? This is really important as it declares the value of goods to Customs thus evaluating VAT/duty on a shipment.

You may need to determine who pays for the various processes of the export (freight, clearance costs, VAT, duty and much more). This is determined by Incoterms - do you know the Incoterms of your export?

All exports will now be subject to customs declarations such as Export Accompanying Documents (EADs), once we have obtained all of the required data and documentation, we can ensure the export EAD is raised for the consignment.
